Personality counts if you want a long life....

Personality counts if you want a long life......

According to a recent article in ARRP if you are a busy, organized, and calm individual you just may live longer than your depressed, angry, or anxious peers. This information is according to a new finding from the National Institute of Aging. Beginning in 1958, the NIA analyzed questionnaires from 2,359 healthy people in a Baltimore Longitudinal study and found that those who score above average in conscientiousness, emotional stability, and stayed active mentally as well as physically lived an average of two or three years longer than those with lower scores.......
What do you think? Do you think personality plays a part in longevity?
I look forward to hearing from you....
With warmest regards,

Yes I do believe someone that is more laid back and calm will live longer all things being equal. Cancer or illness can change that.

It makes sense doesn't it. Not being stressed out has to add years to your life. Hope you have a great day tomorrow!

I hit one out of three. I'm busy, that's for sure! I'm selectively organized. My writing is organized, my time, house, etc... maybe not so much. Relaxed and confident? Well...

When we bought the house we live in I learned a valuable lesson. The seller was in her 50s and majorly depressed because her husband left her a couple of years prior. She let everything go to pot and eventually died of a broken heart a few years later.

On the other hand, her realtor was 77 at the time we bought the house. She was spry and energetic and still working full time. I asked her how she did it and this was what she said, "People think hard work will kill you. They're wrong; it will keep you alive."

Well, I tend to be organized AND anxious. Maybe they'll cancel each other out?

Hi Carol
I would agree with that. Feeling good mentally makes everything in your body feel good...being the other way stresses your heart...can raise your blood pressure etc. They do say that laughter is the best medicine..it has a way.
I hope you have had a happy day

I do believe in this! My grandfather lived til 90 and he was very laid back, always had a project going and focused on the positive things in life!

Definitely. I work in a very stressful environment and it's easy to see who is healthier than the rest. I do believe that personality is a major factor. Even though a person cannot eliminate stress from their life completely there are healthy ways to manage stress. Exercise, in my opinion, is #1!!! I need to work on this though!!

All things being equal, it does seem the calm but busy person has the edge. On the other hand, I think of my grandfather, a grouchy, grumpy, always complaining about everything kind of guy. He lived to 98.

Yes, personality and attitude play a big part. I see some people my age who look old and worn out and I'm sure they won't live as long as others of the same age who look and act much younger. I think some people just want to be old or they give up.
