Look what's happened to Charli!......

Look what's happened to Charli!

To say that I am upset and disappointed is to put it mildly. I think shocked would be a much better description of how I am feeling. Do you see that sweet little face? Look very closely. Do you see the swelling between her eyes? That is a blister and the outer edge of her entire eye is red! Charli is in a lot of pain! She didn't feel like posing so it was difficult to get pictures but I wanted all of you to see what happened to her. There are areas on her body that are shaved right down to the skin and other areas that have been left long so that her hair looks patchy and her skin looks bright pink in places.

As I said I had difficulty getting pictures but I wanted you to see Charli's neck. Do you see that red spot? That red spot is yet another blister!

I don't understand how this could have happened. I have been taking Charli to the same groomer since she was a tiny little puppy and nothing like this has ever happened before. Needless to say she will not be going back to that groomers again. I have tried contacting the groomer but all I was able to do is leave her a message telling her how upset and disappointed I am.
Charli is having a very difficult time right now because she wants to scratch. Every time she tries I have to tell her no and of course she doesn't understand. I am very concerned about secondary infections. I have had a total of three schnauzers through the years. They have all went to a groomers and I have never had anything like this happen before.
Have you ever had a bad experience with a groomer?
I don't think I can ever leave Charli at a groomers alone again! I am going to have to find one that will let me stay with her. I just wish my little Charli would start to feel better soon......
I hope all of you are having a good day ♥
With warmest regards, Carol

Oh my goodness! Poor Charli! She must be having some allergic reaction to a new shampoo maybe. I'm glad you called to report it. Maybe the dog groomer will go back to the other shampoo. I hope Charlie feels better soon! ♥

It would be nice if the groomer would call back and act professional and take some accountability for what happened. I feel so sorry for Charli and you too. No one wants to have a beloved pet in pain.

I hope that you are able to speak with the groomer...wonder about an allergy like Anne suggests. My mother's poodle can get those "hot spots" after being to the groomer's. Poor little Charli! I hope that she feels better soon.

Oh, Carol! I'm so sorry about poor little Charlie! That's terrible. Poor little thing. I think I'd march right down to that groomers and demand to know what happened. They should accept responsibility! Poor little darling. Maybe they had a dull razor or the shampoo was different. They should have told you.
I'm sorry and hope she feels better soon.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)

Oh Dear! I know exactly how you feel and how Charli feels, too!

Our pups have only been with us since May and June, 2009...and the 2nd time I took Jasper to the Groomer, was the 1st time I took Benny. When I picked them up, their hair was cut soooooooo short...much shorter than what I had answered when asked, "How much hair do you want trimmed off?"

Jasper, being a Maltese, has fine hair and cut so close like he was, made his skin look so red. And then...when I got him home and noticed his little back-side...GOSH!!! They shaved him so close, they shaved skin clear off of him!

I called and complained...to no avail. Neither of the dogs have gone back there.

Since that terrible grooming experience in June...I have been grooming both dogs.

Last Saturday, after much thought, we decided to check out a groomer near our house, to give me a little break. When I called to make an appointment, I was told, "just have your dogs in the shop between 6am (when they open) and 10:30am...no appointment". OK...we were there at 8am.

The owner started be-rating Tom and I for coming in without an appointment...then he gruffly asked..."What do you want done with your 2 dogs?" When I told him about 1/2" off the Maltese...and a little shorter on the face, he responded with another "GRUFF" reply. "We have the same clippers everyone in town does...and it shaves the dogs! I don't scissor-cut any dog!" At that point Tom was talking to him...and I decided we needed to get outta there!!

I am now officially Jasper and Benny's GROOMER!! It may take some time every month grooming them...both being longer-haired dogs...but I know I will be alot more careful with them than any of the groomers they've seen so far!

~Blessings,
Jan

I also meant to say...that if you have access to some Essential Oil in Lavender, you can apply some to the blisters and scrapes, to aid in healing. While you're at it, breathe the oil in deeply, to calm yourself. It really works.

And...when I told my Vet that I had used Lavender oil on Jasper, after he'd been bitten by a tick, he said "GREAT!! It's got anti-biotic properties and is a calming agent for the skin!" I was so glad he said that! (Jasper didn't care too much for the scent...but he loved that it took away the itch and the pain, for a while.)

Hello Carol.

Oh poor poor poor Charlie! I can see red blotches. The pain and itchy feeling . . . and then not be able to scratch is worse. I wonder too. It's a good thing to let the groomer know about it. I wonder if other dogs got it too. If there are a number of reports that hopefully the groomer will have to investigate as to what have caused it.

Li

Oh my dearest Carol, I am hurting just seeing her little body in this condition! So then, they shaved too close? Or used a harsh shampoo? I would continue to try to get a hold of the groomer; they should be paying for Charli's medical bills. But most of all, I want Charli to get better....I will be praying! I just can't stand to see our furry friends hurting. God bless you Carol, and Charli. Anita

Hope Charli gets to feeling better real soon. I would continue to contact the groomer and gets some satisfaction even if you have to take Charli with you and show him/her what has happened. Hope you both get to feeling better. Madeline

Poor Charli....that is so awful. The groomer needs to call you back. Very unprofessional. I read about a dog that was infected at a groomers from dirt at his place of business. If she doesn't heal soon, I'd see the vet. That groomer was charged with cruelty. I have a friend who went early to pick up her dog and caught the groomer smacking her dog. She left, never went back or reported her. She now only will have her dog groomed if she can be there. She had to look hard and long to find one. Most do NOT want the owner present. Strange but true. I hope Charli will heal soon. Blessings, Mel

Thank you so much for all your comments and concern for me and Charli. I also want to thank you for all of the good advice and tips you have given me. I still cannot imagine this happening to Charli. It is razor burns. I pray that they will heal without any further problems. I am going to send the pictures to the groomer that I shared with you but I can't take Charli back there ever. Thanks again so much ♥ I can't believe she hasn't even bothered to call me back. She has been our groomer for over four years.

Oh Carol, just checking up to see if there have been any developments. Let us know. I know that your concerns about an infection are most troubling; I will pray that this will go no further and that Charli will be on the mend tout de suite! Let us know....Anita

Poor Charli! If the groomer had called and offered some sort of explanation or apology you might feel a wee bit better. :(

I've never had dogs that required grooming, but my sis-in-law has had great luck with mobile groomers. It began with a dog that was terrified of riding in the car, was a godsend to another feared being away from her and is now just funny with her current dog who thinks any van might be the groomer. He is always ready for a shampoo, the vain lil thing! LOL.

So very sorry to hear about Charli and the grooming gone a muck. I have had it happen to our pekapoo (pekinese poodle mix) and also caught a groomer trying to breed our pet without permission. Needless to say the fur and blisters are causing a great deal of discomfort and pain. Have you phoned your Vet. to see if a possible topical ointment for the blisters? Our dog had to have some when shaved too close.
I took over grooming after our poor little guy was tramatized from poor grooming. Will keep you and Charli in the prayers.

Your heart must be aching tonight. I can't imagine how that would feel, trusting someone for so many years and then to have them betray your trust. Poor Charli. He probably had no idea what was happening. I hope you find a new reliable and very kind groomer. Until then I hope you both feel better soon.

Poor Charli!

We used to have a Lhasa-Apso (Gizmo), he loved me but he was nasty to everyone else, so I know he was not easy to groom, but if they let the right groomer do it everything was fine. One time he came home with a horrible trim, somebody new had done him, then another time he came home with cuts! Again, they let someone new do it. I started making appointments with just a certain groomer and if she wasn't there I wouldn't let anyone else groom him.

Poor Charli.
She'll heal, it will take awhile, but she'll be okay.
I hope she's on the mend already!
Love to you,
Eileen
PS ~ I'll check back, please post a picture for us when she's all healed!

Poor Charli, and poor you! We did have a bad groomer experience... Poor Fred, our big ol' basset boy, all but had a nervous breakdown on his last visit. They assured me they'd done nothing different, but from that day on, the Knight bathed his big boy at home, and it still wasn't a fun experience.

Mugsy - my departed male terrier - used Relief shampoo to control his seasonal allergy itches and hot spots. They also make a Relief spray, both of which are available from the vet.

This is awful. Obviously someone who didn't know anything about grooming did this. The blisters are probably burns from hot blades. The blades get very hot and have to be cooled frequently. She also has razor burns from shaving her too closely. The poor baby must be in terrible pain.

When Fudge had a small razor burn once I put corn starch on it to cool his skin and relieve the pain.

Oh Carol
I haven't had a chance to visit for a while. That is horrible!! What could have happened. I wish Charli was able to tell you. I know you won't take her back but what could have caused that to happen??
I have never heard of that in my life either. The groomer must have felt horrible and if you do have costs it would be good for her to help out.

Poor little one and now he's so frightened also. *hugs to you and to Charli"

On a brighter note come by I'm having a Giveaway!!
Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and your new year is other wise off to a good start and enjoy the weekend.
