'the MIDDLE PLACE'..... A book review.......
'the MIDDLE PLACE'......
A book review......
'the MIDDLE PLACE' is a true story written by Kelly Corrigan. Kelly, the only daughter of George Corrigan, was truly a daddy's little girl. In regards to her father, Kelly states, "I always thought I was born under a lucky star to be George Corrigan's daughter." Growing up in a household with two older brothers and no sisters, Kelly lived quite a charmed life. Things always seemed to come easy for her. She was doted on by her parents and brothers. She was loved, coddled, cherished, and protected throughout her childhood and young adult life. Later she met and married the man of her dreams. Life was good! Then in her thirties, with two young daughters of her own, Kelly was diagnosed with stage 111 breast cancer and everything changed. In the book, Kelly says, "George Orwell once said something about how childhood necessarily creates a false map of the world but it's the only map we've got and no matter how old we are, at the first sign of trouble, we take of running for those fabulous countries. It's like that for me."
Though out the book Kelly shares stories about her childhood, her life with her husband and daughters, the devastation of receiving a diagnosis of cancer, her treatment, and later the heart breaking news that her beloved father's cancer had reoccurred. Kelly was candidly honest though out the book which at times caused me to pause. The book was heart warming, funny, sad, and sometimes even down right heart breaking.
In addition to the book, Kelly has established a web site http://www.circusofcancer.org/press-spokes.html that is designed to help people who have a friend or loved one who has been diagnosed with cancer. It contains a wealth of information, helpful tips, and photographs. I think it's a site worth passing along to a friend. Kelly has also written a picture book for mommy's with cancer. The site contains a video of the interview Kelly did with Kathie Couric for The TODAY Show that you may find interesting as well.
Have you read the book? If so, what did you think of it. If you visited the site I linked here, did you find it helpful? I would love to hear from you.
It's a rainy day here in our area. With each new wave of storms that pass through more and more buds begin to open on the bushes and trees.
Charli is doing so much better now. In fact she is finally back to her old self again. Thanks again for all of your good wishes, comments, and prayers ♥
I hope all of you have a truly beautiful day!
With warmest regards, Carol
